Dolly Parton Shares Cover Of Tom Petty’s ‘Southern Accents’ From Tribute Album

Dolly Parton recently released her cover version of the late Tom Petty‘s 1985 song, “Southern Accents.”

Parton’s cover will feature on the upcoming tribute album, Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty.

“Southern Accents” is a song about Petty’s southern roots. Parton brings in her own country twang to her take on “Southern Accents,” although she mostly stays faithful to the original version.

The accompanying music video, directed by Trey Fanjoy, features some archival footage of Petty. Parton is also seen singing in a room featuring Petty’s old instruments, lyric books, and show costumes.

“I was fortunate enough to get to know Tom over the years,” Parton said in a statement. “He’s such an iconic artist and important songwriter. I’m so honored to be a part of this special album and to be able to share my version of one of Tom’s best songs, ‘Southern Accents.'”

Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty, which features contributions from a slew of country starts including Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Lady A, Dierks Bentley, and the Brothers Osborne, as well as veterans like Steve Earle, Marty Stuart, and George Strait, arrives on June 21 via Big Machine / Petty Estate.
